Coonrod IntroductionCoonrod is a root on the maternal side of my family tree. Have found much information about Coonrods that goes back to the 18th century. Darr is another main root and has been traced back to that era, also. The 2 families merged with the marriage of my great grandparents Sarah Rebecca Coonrod and Fredrick Darr. Some information gathered here is from the 1820, 1840, 1850, 1860, 1880, 1900 and 1910 U.S. Census'. Some from the indexes and some from the detail. Many Coonrod names and dates were obtained while researching Mormon Family History Center records. You will also see the results of an inquiry to the Old Soldiers and Sailors Home in Quincy, IL concerning George D. P. Coonrod. Some information was obtained from the Greene County Historical and Genealogical Society. Also included, is information from publications found in the Illinois Historical Society Library in Springfield, IL. Much information was obtained from contacts on the internet, especially Richard Davidson from Wylie, Texas whose ancestors migrated from Greene Co., IL and from Joyce Spencer who provided a lot of the early history of Coonrods in the United States. Richard provided me with a copy of the 'John Findley (1760 - 1839) and Descendants' genealogy by Jessye Ann High. It contains marriage links of the Coonrod family to the Findleys. I want to thank Carol Green of Austin, TX for a copy of John Coonrod's will filed in Greene County, IL on Nov. 26, 1846 witnessed by Dudley Coonrod, Thomas Findley and George Griswold to further validate the Coonrod/Findley connection, as well as, the disposition of his estate. Much information was validated and contributed by Mike Coonrod who I met through e-mail after he had visited my web page. Mike is a serious Coonrod genealogist.
