End Ron Coonrod contribution. John and Elizabeth had a son whom they named Dudley in KY in 1819 and a son named George D. P. in Wayne County, IL in 1827. John and Elizabeth came to Wayne County between the time Dudley was born and when the 1820 census was taken. This means they traveled with a newborn baby. The family moved to Greenfield area of Greene County in 1829. This time they had a 1 1/2 year old baby when they moved. Stephen and Candis probably moved from Kentucky to Wayne County, IL at the same time as John and Elizabeth because their wives were both Lees and, perhaps, sisters. Since the 2 sons show up in Illinois on the 1820 census, they probably all moved as a family group. Stephen and Candis' first child, Jefferson Coonrod, was born in Wayne County in 1823. Not much was found on Henry Coonrod except in 'A History of Wayne County' he is said to have been in Wayne County in the fall of 1819 when Nathan Attebury moved to Wayne County. Whether he arrived before the rest of the family is unknown. Perhaps this is the approximate time the whole family arrived. Interesting fact, however, haven't yet found the definitive document of descendancy such as a birth certificate. There may be a real connection due to the way children are named after grandparents and uncles. Found in a 'A History of Rockingham County, Virginia' Chapter V by Dr. John W. Wayland, Ph D. The following was extracted: 'May 30, 1782. Revolutionary claims were allowed to : George Coonrod, Stephen Coonrod and Pet. Coonrod, among others.' Also, from the preceding document: 'June 23, 1783. Capt. Stephen Coonrod came into Court and proved that he lost or mislaid a certain Certificate granted by Col. Wm. Hall to John Fie so that it cannot be found for one old wolfs Scalp and that the same is Ordered to be Certified.' Also, from the preceding document in a section naming residents with horses and slaves: 'and Jacob Coonrod, 16 horses and no slaves.' |
