The 1885 History of Greene County from the book History of Greene and Jersey Counties, IL found in the Genealogical Society Archives in Springfield, IL provides the following about Stephen Coonrod.

Elder Stephen Coonrod made a settlement in this township, in 1829, on the northwest quarter of the northeast quarter of section 33, which he entered, and where he lived until 1872, when he died. He was born in Grayson county, Ky., Feb. 4, 1798 being a son of George Coonrod. He was married Feb. 28, 1819, to Candis Lee, born Dec. 6, 1800, in Kentucky. Soon after marriage they removed to Wayne county, where he lived until 1829, when he moved to Greene county, as above. The date of his death was Dec. 19, 1872. He professed religion and was baptized in May, 1812, and in 1828 he began preaching, and continued doing so the rest of his life, being a member of the old Regular Baptist church. In politics he was a democrat. His wife died Nov. 11, 1879. Their marriage was blessed with ten children, six boys and four girls.

The Green County Directory, published 1879 Town 10, North Range 10, West lists:

Coonrod, G.W., police magistrate, Greenfield

Coonrod, Jeff, retired, Greenfield

Coonrod, Park, renter, P.O. Rockbridge

Coonrod, Rebecca, Sec. 28, P.O. Greenfield

Coonrod, Thomas, renter, Sec. 21, P.O. Rockbridge

'Greene & Jersey Counties, Illinois' Volume II compiled by Jean M. Maire indicates that Stephen was born in Shelby county, Kentucky.

The 1850 census shows Stephen Coonrod and family in Greene County and that Stephen had a son named George W. Coonrod. His wife's name is almost illegible, but it starts with C, looks like Candad, however, it is most likely Candis Lee. He is 52, she is 49. He is from KY, she is from SC. He is a farmer. Their children are Madison, age 28 and a carpenter; George W., age 23 and a school teacher; Isabel, age 20; Edmund G. 18, and a farmer; Stephen M., age 13; Christofer C., age 11; Nancy Ann, age 9; and Emily, age 7.
