Frain, Katherine Loretta and Dick Glazebrook
This is Katherine and her Dad. |
This
is Katherine, husband Dick and son Jimmy |
Katherine was born in Spring Valley, IL on Feb. 10, 1910 to Luke
Frain and Elizabeth Bird. She married
Dick Glazebrook in 1927. They had one child, James born May 3, 1928. After many years of
marriage, Dick died. Katherine remarried to Rudolph "Snooks" Schmelzer.
Katherine died March 7, 1987 in Kincaid, IL. and is buried at Bethany Cemetery
located a couple miles north of Tovey, IL on Lake Sanchris.
I have seen several spellings for Katherine which includes Kathrine and
Cathrine. It looks as if she personally used different spellings over the
years.
Katherine graduated from Tovey, IL Elementary School in 1925.
For many years, Dick and Katherine lived in Bulpitt, IL Dick was a
boss at Peabody Coal Mine #7 located just east of Kincaid, IL by the South Fork
River off Route 104.
My own personal memories of Katherine and Dick are of times we visited them
in Bulpitt. Dick was a big person but had a good personality. They always had a
garden in the back yard from which they obtained a lot of vegetables for eating
and canning. They were especially proud of the tomatoes they raised.
Katherine, on the other hand, was short. She and Dick were sort of a Mutt and
Jeff as far as height was concerned. She was a very pleasant person and seemed
genuinely fond of my sisters and me and had us over many times. On some of those
occasions, the visits were extended to Dick's parents' home north of Bulpitt, IL and
out in the country. For myself, I liked those excursions. They gave me chances
to 'explore'.
After Dick died, Katherine married Rudolph "Snooks" Schmelzer. Snooks was a long time
proprietor of a bar in Bulpitt, IL. They lived the rest of their lives in Kincaid,
IL.
Snooks had a grown daughter, Ruth Ann, from a previous marriage. She was
about the same age as my sisters. She married Tim Binegar and they both live in
Bulpitt, IL. This is notable because Tim is a nephew of Earl Warren who married my
step-sister Hattie Louise.
Katherine kept many photos, newspaper articles, obituary
remembrances and more. I come into possession of much of this.
There are a number of references to her about the pictures on my web
pages and some remembrance cards and obituaries.
